I am proud to say that I AM one of those millions and have got up out of my seat many times and switched it off as I was sitting transfixed to the goggle box watching and listening to stuff that offended my morality and personal codes. It has become commonplace and common (in the gutter) to the extreme. I do not remember programme makers putting this kind of trash out when I was younger but we have slid into smut and it is time to vote with our fingers and SWITCH IT OFF. It is no surpise that family programmes see the ratings rise significantly but have we become just accepting of what they are giving us to watch? We do have a choice - switch off or switch over. I have switched off and refused to listen to dvd's and films where there was language criticising Christ openly. I have switched off mid way through a series where it WAS funny, but the swearing was in every single sentence spoken. Why they had to script in the avalance of swearing into a uniquely funny plot I cannot understand and also why WHY did this programme receive an honour from Her Majesty!? What did that say to tv makers?
The levels of pornography are reaching new highs, or lows, with programme makers vying for viewers with more scenes from the bedroom which are best kept behing closed doors as the 'gratuitous' (well quoted by tv and film stars but also well paid, good little earners)violence and porn are out of control and are music to satan's ears. What will standards be like 10 years from now when our kids and grandkids grow up? This current norm is anything bur normal. It is so easy to get hooked into watching it without realising the affect it has on you. It is also so easy to switch it off. Please try. God, we realise that You want our characters to grow and move away from perverse viewing and violence screened. They offend You because they are influencing us and our children in negative ways. I pray for quality control in our tv and film industries so that we can enjoy what we watch and not have the images of offensive material influencing our thoughts and behaviour. There are countless variations of humanitarian and endearing stories to portray (fact and fiction), there are comedy themes, there are love stories to tell and so on; but there is no need for this kind of material on our televisions. Help us switch off to accepting such programmes and switch on to protecting our minds and characters. Amen.
