What is Prayer? * The most important and updated page on this site is Prayer Petitions under Prayer on the menu list. Prayer is like a conversation you have with, for example, yourself or with someone else. In other words, you talk to yourself or the person (as God is) then pause to listen. So, in effect, praying is simply a conversation - just as you talk to yourself in your mind or address someone else verbally.
God doesn't insist, or want, you to talk to Him putting on heirs and graces or using complicated language. Just go to Him as you are right now and talk to Him as you normally do. Neither, in His Grace, does He only hear our words (prayers) if we are sitting in a church or at certain times or in certain places. No, He just waits and wants to talk with us. With us.
We can and should talk to Him about ANYTHING. He wants to hear it all, so don't hold back on your words or emotions. He takes them, . Can take them and wants to. Waits to.
My daily prayer is the words Christ Himself spoke and taught us to say to our Father (God). In this brief prayer though lies everything we need to say on a daily basis. It is:
Our Father, who art in heaven Hallowed be Your name Your Kingdom come Thy will be done On earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread And forgive us our sins As we forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation And deliver us from the evil one. For Thine is the Kingdom The power and the glory Forever. Amen.
Powerful words...I will, in due course, expand on my understanding of the many meanings held within this prayer. Please join me daily, wherever you are around the world, in this prayer.
'In my faithfulness, I will reward them and make an everlasting covenant with them'. Isaiah 61:8 'Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven'. Romans 4;7
The Lord's prayer tells us first of all who God is. He is our Heavenly Father. Our creator who knew us before we were born. He has a plan and purpose for each and waits for each to go and ask Him what it is. This brings Him great joy.
Hallowed means Holy and honour as He is just that. Angels in the highest heaven, where He is, praise Him day and night for His holiness and goodness. They praise Him because He keeps His word and has nothing but good and merciful intentions towards us.
