The Salvation Army are a wonderful organisation bringing christian counselling, aid to our homeless people, food parcels, company, guidance and fellowship to anyone who needs it, for whatever reason. Bless their works. Been to a few services and was touched by their generosity and united spirit.
Their magazine is called 'The War Cry'. We are in a war. A spiritual war but thank God, we are told 'Do not be be afraid and do not be dismayed at this, for the battle is not yours but Gods' in 2 Chronicles 20;15. We don't or wont have to lift a finger, only our hands in prayer and keep our eyes on the Lord. Praise Him.
A recent article in The War Cry called 'For the Love of Wisdom' caught my attention. A very intelligent woman shared her knowledge and theories, a lot of which I am in agreement with.
'I do love (and seek) His wisdom 'For (His) wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her' Proverbs 8;11 tells us. This lady wrote when asked what Jesus meant to her 'I'm still learning, but to me, Jesus is a revelation of God's love and purpose'. We are always still learning and He is continually teaching and sharing with us.
She has studied philosphies and and now the bible (Phd holder) and at the start had no firm beliefs. But she now has a growing faith. Like me, she correctly identifies that pride and intelligence (I know best/I'll do it my way first) are barriers to living in His wisdom. These are things we should try and overcome and you are not alone if this affects you. You are also not on your own as God is with you. God will help you. Just ask.
God's grace is discussed and 'moral ideals and a sense of meaning and purpose' shared.God gives us His grace and so we too must try and share that with others.
Father, help us surrender our feelings of superiority, pride and self management. Help us give them up to You at Your throne of Grace and Wisdom and live in the revelations You send us. Your wisdom is above all and I thank You that You give it so freely'. Amen
