As Bob Marley's song lyrics say 'there is no hiding place from the Father of Creation...give thanks and praise to the Lord and You will be alright!'. Amen.
Out in Israel today is the start of a celebration called HANUKKAH. Years ago, my sister, Ruth, asked me to get her a Menorrah which is a jewish candlestick and is the symbol of Israel - light is very important - symbolising the light and love of the Lord burning for us all.
So, tonight, in Israel and all over the world, jewish peoples will light the light in remembrance of the many miracles God and Christ did out there around 2200 years ago. This tradition remains and is held in reverence. It begun in the Holy City - Jerusalem-and is still a very significant, sacred and happy event.
God's first miracle there was GOD'S DELIVERANCE - from the massive oppression out there from the then greeks and syrians who came against them in massive numbers. But, the jews STILL follow the Torah which they tried to wipe out through oppression.
The jewish priest Mattathias and his sons led a small group to rise against the united 25,000 greek/syrian armies coming against. The jews and israelites re-entered the temple that's been taken off them for years. The oppressors had desecrated it by sacrificing a pi in the Holy Temple. But the jews won and gained access and immediately re-dedicated it and lit the Menorah. They found only one small bottle of oil left which was enough to last only one day! But, miraculously, this tiny supply lasted 8 days giving them time to sanctify more oil for us for all.
The second miracle was the taking back the temple and having been given enough time to sanctify more oil and to get the light on the Temple Menorah re-lit as it had to be burned 24 hours a day. Who did this? The Lord. A small group of men against an army of 25,00 - alike David and Goliath as with god all things are possible for He is God of the impossible as we all know now.
1000 years after this, a man called Yeshua went to the Holy Temple on Hanukkah and they asked him 'are you the Messiah?'. Then came the Feast of Dedication (Hanukkah) from out of Jerusalem the source and origin. Later, when winter, Jesus or Yeshua to jews was IN the Holy Temple area walking about in Solomon's Colonnade. The jews then gathered around Him asking in desperation if he was the Messiah and how long must they wait and asking if He could speak plainly. John 10; 22-24.
The candles get light tonight, the start of Manukkah and i shall light mines too - the candle light of the Christ.
He was and still is the Messiah:
LIGHT OF THE WORLD - YESHUA HA MASHIACH.
'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never again walk in darkness, but will have the light of life'. John 8;12
Father and our light, Yeshua, bless this Holy day and make this year the most special for them through Your Spirit's intervention. Grant them Grace and joy. I thank You for their dedication to You and keeping the traditions going of their forefathers. I also thank You for also being in reverend receipt of Your light; as we all are, everywhere in Your world. This light will never go out - thank You!. Amen.
